UPDATE: 2 1/2 year ago we had sisters (not biological) named Nyla and Nala. They were adopted out separately and sadly Nyla is being returned to the shelter March 14, 2017. One of the family members has severe asthma and they can no longer keep her. Nyla is now 4 years old and here is what the family that has had her for 2 1/2 years has told us about her.
“Nyla is a very characteristic Great Pyrenees, calm, gentle, docile demeanor, somewhat serious, independent thinker and can be stubborn. Nyla lives with 2 cats, she is fine with them, however she loves to eat their fo od, and sometimes thinks she is a small dog & wants to play chase with them. She is good with people - she LOVES people, the only thing we have encountered is that she does not like men who wear (baseball/trucker) hats. She does not get along with other dogs, and will chase squirrels and rabbits. However she will remain calm with other dogs at such places like pet stores, groomer, vet. She is good with kids, she has never reacted badly with any kids from all ages. Please make sure that whoever gets her knows that she is a breed that is a protector, so any unfamiliar little noise she will bark and that she sheds. We bring her to the groomer about 4 times a year. She does like to sleep on couches. She HATES fireworks, she will hide in our bath tub when they go off. She doesn't eat a ton of food, due to the fact that GP's are kinda lazy. She does love taking long walks in the winter, shorter ones in the summer and car rides. She is very strong. She loves to be outdoors, esp in the winter - she LOVES the snow and rolls around in it. She only really plays with a rope, and that isn't very often, so she is not a "go fetch" dog at all. Would need a place with a yard I don’t think apartment life would work for her.”
