The family of murdered backpacker Hannah Witheridge have been hit with fresh heartbreak after her sister died aged 30 yesterday. Hannah, 23, was found on a beach on tourist hotspot Koh Tao, Thailand, in September 2014 after being brutally raped and bludgeoned to death. Now relatives have revealed their “indescribable” pain after their other daughter, Laura Daniels, succumbed to a “grave illness”. She died five years and one day after Hannah was killed along with David Miller, from Jersey, who suffered severe head injuries. Her family confirmed in a statement: "Our beautiful girl Laura passed away on Monday, September 16. "Laura had been gravely ill and was being treated in hospital. "Our hearts are broken, our lives are shattered once more. "The pain of this loss is indescribable and our family very much need time and privacy during this unbearable time." It comes as Burmese migrant workers Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo, also known as Win Zaw Htun, learned they will be executed for the brutal murders after their appeals were thrown out of court. The pair were found guilty of the murders and sentenced to death in 2015. Laura revealed in 2016 how she was sent sick images of the crime scene and received death threats. She also spoke out about how her family were targeted by a twisted troll as they tried to cope with the tragedy. Laura described the impact on her family as being “drop-kicked into the pits of hell itself” after her sister was killed. But she was comforted by the efforts of supporters who helped to raise £17,000 to allow the family to attend the murder trial in Thailand and pay for an interpreter. Writing on the GoFundMe fundraising page, she said: "The past year has thrown our lives into disarray, tarnished our trust in anything and everything and made us question humanity. "On my darkest days, I think about the people who have thrown themselves out of planes, run significant distances and those who have sacrificed precious pounds from tight budgets to support us. "It is in these selfless acts of kindness that I see reason to keep putting one foot in front of the other."
